I read a great article today, ‘Too Busy? Two Words, One Big Fat Lie’ written by Jason Zook, founder of IWearYourShirt.com.
It was a great article, pretty thought provoking. One of the things he says is “If the work you are doing makes you feel busy, then the work you are doing doesn’t truly matter to you. Work worth doing isn’t busy work”
This got me thinking and you know what I think he’s onto something. Think about the last time you were working on a project that really inspired you, do you remember thinking that you were too busy or were you just engrossed in the work you were doing?
So we need to find the things that inspire us, the things that light us up and make us feel alive, we will be busy but we will never feel busy.
The way I see it, all time decisions are a choice, you are constantly choosing where to spend your time, but quite often this happens subconsciously as you work your way down your endless to do list. Many of us haven’t even stopped to take time to think about what it is that we want out of life, what are your goals?
Next time you are feeling too busy, why not stop, take out a piece of paper set a timer for 5 minutes and write down what your ideal life would look like if you could have anything, be anything or do anything. Don’t be realistic, be bold.
Now you have your priorities and the time decision becomes about whether the thing you are about to invest your time in is a priority for you, does it get you closer to what you want? You may not be able to change things over night but you can at least make a start.
