Fourth & Church

Fourth & Church is owned and run by Sam Pryor and Paul Morgan, two cooks and wine enthusiasts who have worked in restaurants, bars and wine shops for many years. They have a real passion for interesting wines and great tasting food and had always wanted to open somewhere where they can work with artisan products and share them with their customers.

We first met Paul and Sam back in 2014 when they were just getting started. We set up the company for them and explained what the legal and compliance complexities are around starting a business. Knowing we were there to support them with this enabled them to focus on their consultancy work while also searching for the perfect place for their business.

In 2015 they found the perfect premises to open their bar, restaurant and wine shop. We set up their bookkeeping systems and provided training and support so that they could keep on top of the figures. We researched Point of Sale options and recommended they use Lightspeed as their till system, not only is a great point of sale system but it also links to Xero so that the sales are recorded automatically. We also introduced them to Receipt Bank, award–winning software which allows them to easily capture their supplier invoices and automate some of the processing.

The shop needed staff so whilst Sam and Paul focussed on finding the right people we registered them as employers with HMRC and started processing their payroll to make sure everyone got paid correctly. We also registered them for VAT and provided support to get them up and running with their quarterly VAT returns. These can seem like quite daunting tasks when you are also trying to juggle refitting a shop and getting ready for the big opening and as always our aim is to take away the headache and create space for business owners to do what they do best, run their business!

Setting up a new business and following your dreams can be an exciting time but it also can be a very stressful time. We’ve loved working in partnership with the guys to get them through this stage by providing practical solutions so that they can get to the point where they are in control of their business finances.
